Getting to know Jake
What do you enjoy most about working at RTD?
I love the community here at RTD. While I am new, it already feels like one big family where everyone wants to help each other excel in financial planning while growing as individuals. Since beginning my role here, I have been overwhelmed by the support and encouragement I have received from everyone, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds!
What makes you good at what you do?
Being a financial planner requires a passion for helping others; we at RTD help people improve their financial positions and lifestyles through what we teach our clients. Throughout high school, I was a lifeguard at a summer camp, and the best parts of my day were when I would teach swimming lessons. I also helped with music camps, teaching people songs on guitar and bass. The best parts of these positions were watching children be able to swim on their own or feel confident about the songs they’re playing; I want RTD’s clients to feel the same way about their financial life plans and financial literacy.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received?
Try new things! Every experience offers something to learn, and you’ll never know if you like something unless you truly explore it. I was hesitant to pursue my second major in financial planning and pick up a second instrument—the bass—at first, but they have led to some of my most rewarding and memorable life experiences.
What are your passions outside of work?
I’ve been playing guitar since I was eight and picked up electric bass in high school. I love music – learning new songs, playing with bands, attending concerts, etc.
