Nicole is the Vice President of Employer Retirement Plan Services who partners with organizations that care about their employees and wants them to attain financial independence in retirement. For employers who embrace their fiduciary responsibility, Nicole assists in navigating the complex and evolving compliance procedures surrounding retirement plans.
While Nicole was growing up, her family moved from their hometown in Iowa, moving five times before settling in New Jersey. Her father worked for a nationwide company who promoted from within and valued detailed and goal-oriented individuals. At a young age, Nicole learned the meaning of a strong work ethic and quickly learned how to adapt to being the “new kid” in class.
Using the drive she learned from her father and her plan oriented mind, she began her career as a financial advisor. It soon became apparent that Nicole’s passion was centered on retirement planning and collaborating with owners and executives to construct effective retirement plan programs for their employees. The variety of detailed oriented investment and compliance procedures with the social aspect of talking with people to help them feel confident about planning for their future is an ideal mix for Nicole.
In 2009, Nicole received the Accredited Investment Fiduciary® designation and continues to grow professionally by being an active member of the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries (ASPPA) Benefits Council of Greater Philadelphia and a member of the National Association of Plan Advisors (NAPA). During the pandemic, Nicole dedicated time to obtain the Certified Plan Fiduciary Advisor™ designation and in 2021 she received the Qualified 401(k) Administrator™ (QKA®) credential to extend her knowledge of retirement plan administration.
She resides in southern New Jersey with her rescue dog, Penny (Penelope Rose when she’s in trouble!). Nicole enjoys traveling, especially home to Iowa to spend time with her extended family and rooting on the Philadelphia Flyers and Big Ten football.
Getting to know Nicole
What do you enjoy most about working at RTD?
The team I work with! Not only is there a support system in place dedicated to helping you grow, but to work with so many amazing women is not typical in the male dominated financial planning industry.
What makes you good at what you do?
Living in different states, I learned to adapt and be proactive in speaking up for myself and those around me. I may speak with the speed of a northeastern now, but there was a time that I had a slight southern drawl and from time to time you can still hear a little bit of the Midwest come out. People not only speak differently but learn differently as well and I use that knowledge to be creative and diverse in the communication and engagement we have with plan sponsors and participants.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received?
Advice that really hit home for me was if it’s not going to impact you five years from now, don’t stress about it! This reminds me to pick my head up out of the weeds sometimes and look at the big picture. To not focus on the small things we cannot control but look ahead to the future and what I can do today to advocate for myself and my clients.
